All About the Mazda Millionth Miata Celebration Tour

The one millionth Miata MX-5 was produced in Japan this year, and it’s touring the world to celebrate. It’s finally made it to the U.S. and is stopping in 18 cities.Meet the Millionth MiataFor those whose cities are lucky enough to be on the Miata MX-5 tour, be sure to get to the venue early. Be one of the first 240 owners and fans in line and you’ll get to sign the car, permanently adding your mark to a historical car that will be displayed forever. On top of that, the first 400 people in line will get a commemorative T-shirt that reads “Millionth Miata Celebration Tour.”The Millionth Miata is a right-hand-drive Japanese specified, soft-top convertible that’s equipped with 1.5 liter SKYACTIV-G engine. It will be traveling the country with stops in Countryside, Illinois; Indianapolis, Indiana; Columbus, Ohio; Charlotte, North Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; Jacksonville, Florida; Daytona Beach, Florida; Houston, Texas; Austin, Texas; Dallas, Texas; Phoenix, Arizona; Los Angeles, California; and Monterey, California.The tour has already started, so be sure to check the schedule to find out when the Millionth Miata is coming to visit your city and then get in line early so that you can leave your mark on this legendary vehicle. The U.S. tour started Aug. 18 at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the Monterey Motorsports Reunion, and the Millionth Miata remained there until Aug. 21. The tour will end at the same location on Oct. 1 for the event Miatas at Mazda Raceway.Not Just Any CarThe Mazda Miata is not like any other car. Production of the Miata began in 1990, making the car 27 years old and counting. There’s no end in sight for the Miata MX-5, as it was labeled the best-selling roadster of all time last year and has brought driving joy to many customers. The Miata MX-5 also won the 2016 World Car of the Year and the World Car Design of the Year. It’s been a big year for the Miata, culminating in the release of the 2017 MX-5 RF, with upgrades that make it even more amazing than its predecessors.Not enough to get you to go? There’s another incentive. The Millionth Miata will be joined on the tour by the first of its kind, the 15th Miata ever built. This car was released in 1990 and is the classic red model that was displayed at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show. It’s hard to believe this classic car is now almost 27 years old. The 1990 Miata is part of the Heritage Collection, which is controlled by the Mazda North American Operations group.Fans of the Miata would be hard-pressed to find another even like this that celebrates their favorite model.
