Supplies Needed for a MAZDA Key Fob Battery Replacement

Before we touch on how to open a Mazda key fob so that you can replace the battery and be on your Dallas adventures, you’ll want to make sure you have the necessary supplies. Let’s take a look at what you need before tackling a Mazda key fob battery change:

  • MAZDA key fob
  • Plastic pry tool/flat-head screwdriver wrapped in tape
  • Replacement battery

How to Open a MAZDA Key Fob for Battery Replacement

Keep in mind that depending on your specific Mazda model, the exact procedures could vary. It’s best to reference your owner’s manual or pay a visit to our service center for specifics, especially if your Mazda vehicle was produced before 2016. But, generally speaking, the following steps should apply to most Mazda models.

  1. Take out the emergency key by pressing the emergency key release button on the back of the key fob.
  2. With a plastic pry tool or tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver, lightly pry open the fob cover.
  3. Begin sliding the pry tool or screwdriver along the gap between the cover and key fob.
  4. Once the cover is removed, you can take off the battery cap and remove the dead battery out of the key fob. When doing this, make sure the rubber ring doesn’t come off.
  5. Replace with the new battery, taking note of the positive and negative terminal directions.
  6. Reattach the battery cap.
  7. Carefully snap the fob cover back into place.
  8. Put the emergency key back into the key fob.

Make sure you perform each step carefully to avoid damaging your Mazda key fob. Like we mentioned, if you need assistance at any point with the battery replacement, we suggest you turn to our service technicians for more information. We’re just a short drive away from Hurst.
